Things to do in Marazion & Cornwall

There is so much to see and do in such a short amount of travelling time in Cornwall. Get out and explore.

St Michael’s Mount dominates the bay and can be visited by walking across the causeway at low tide or by ferry boat in the season when boats are running. Still home to the St. Aubyn family, the property is now managed by the National Trust and a visit is not to be missed, gardens are open on selected days. The harbour area is open to all throughout the year.

From Penzance there are boat trips around the bay as well as day / half-day sea fishing trips.

Marazion is an excellent base for exploring the south west peninsular of Cornwall whether by car or by foot and public transport. There is a good bus service to Penzance, Land’s End, St. Ives, Truro and Falmouth.

Day trips might include visiting Land’s End (11 miles), St. Ives (9 miles), Mousehole (7 miles), Newlyn (5 miles), Penzance (3 miles), Falmouth (22 miles), Truro (26 miles) and the Lizard (16miles).

Not to be missed in the summer is a trip to a performance at the Minack Theatre (open throughout the year to visit the site) or perhaps a day trip to the Isles of Scilly.

Many wonderful walks can be made starting from South Wind, with spectacular views, both coastal and inland. Perhaps a circular walk around the lanes – Rose Hill to Gwallon Lane, on to School Lane before returning back down through the town. Go on a little further along the coastal path to the village of Peranuthnoe and take in a stop at one of the pubs on the way.

Christmas in Marazion is very special, from the town decorations, including the best-dressed window competition, to Santa visiting the Christmas Tree in the town square on Christmas Eve. A trip to see the lights in Newlyn and Mousehole has to be fitted in from the beginning of December until just after New Year.

Cornwall has a thriving artists’ community and many people visit the area to paint at their leisure. For those who merely admire works of art, there are many galleries in the area as well as the award-winning Penlee Museum in Penzance and the Tate Gallery in St. Ives.
